Tragic Accident Claims Life of Cyclist in Hougang Collision
A tragic incident unfolded in Hougang on Tuesday evening, resulting in the death of a 64-year-old man who was struck by a minibus while riding his power-assisted bicycle (PAB). The accident occurred at the junction of Hougang Avenue 8 and Hougang Street 61, prompting a swift response from authorities.
The police were alerted to the accident at approximately 6:07pm, and upon their arrival, they found the PAB rider in an unconscious state. The victim was immediately transported to the hospital, but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries.
Reports indicate that the collision involved a white minibus and a traffic light pole. After hitting the bicycle, the minibus crashed into the traffic light structure. The force of the impact caused the victim to be thrown from his PAB, landing around 10 meters away from the point of collision.
The victim, believed to be a food delivery rider, left behind his food delivery box, a notebook, a pair of slippers, jeans, and blood-stained clothing at the scene. The incident attracted the attention of a doctor who happened to be passing by. The doctor swiftly initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the victim until the arrival of the ambulance.
Currently, a 69-year-old male minibus driver is assisting authorities with their ongoing investigations into the accident. As the community mourns the loss of the cyclist, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for vigilance on the part of all road users.
