The company has partnered with Yotta, a cloud storage provider controlled by local conglomerate Hiranandani Group, to store user data in India. Garena has also appointed former Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the brand ambassador for Free Fire India.

The relaunched Free Fire will be localized for the Indian market with “unique content” and features that encourage a “safe, healthy and fun gameplay experience.” Users will also be encouraged to take breaks after certain intervals.

Free Fire was one of the most popular mobile games in India before it was banned in February 2022. The game had over 40 million monthly active users in the country.

Garena’s move to relaunch Free Fire in India comes after Krafton, the South Korean gaming company, secured a re-entry of its popular battle royale game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) in the country on a trial basis.

Industry executives say that Garena, which is owned by Sea group, still needs to change its tack in India and should attempt to mirror Krafton’s strategy by investing in local firms. India’s ban on Free Fire immediately wiped $16 billion off Sea’s market cap last year.

The move comes as investment firms are increasingly looking to sell stakes in startups to return money to their own investors.

According to a report in The Information, citing sources, Social Capital tried to sell stakes in 258 companies in June this year. 

The stakes were worth $312 million in total based on the valuations at which the companies last raised money. It is not clear if the VC firm completed the sales.

Palihapitiya is a Sri Lankan-born venture capitalist who was an early senior executive at Facebook. He founded Social Capital in 2015 and has invested in several companies, including Yammer and Slack. 

He was also an investor in Twitter and was recently sent legal requests by the company related to its legal battle with Elon Musk.

The move by Social Capital to sell its stake in hundreds of startups is a sign of the changing times in the venture capital industry. As the market has become more volatile, investment firms are looking to reduce their risk by selling stakes in companies that have not yet achieved profitability. 

This trend is likely to continue in the coming months and years.

Additionally, the draft underscores the Apple-1’s potential for expansive growth up to 65K through an edge connector, housing an array of 58 integrated circuits, including 16 dedicated to 8K RAM. Interestingly, the document makes reference to “basic on the way (ROM),” a concept that would ultimately materialize in the form of the Apple II, a subsequent innovation to the Apple-1.
