Hood Vibes Cafe Ordered to Close by HDB Amid Noise and Disruption Concerns

A cafe situated on the ground floor of a public housing block in Yishun has been instructed by the Housing and Development Board (HDB) to halt its operations and return the premises to HDB by the approaching Thursday. The decision follows multiple complaints lodged by residents, expressing grievances about noise, littering, and unruly behavior displayed by customers frequenting Hood Vibes cafe. Located at Block 468A Yishun Street 43, the cafe is known for serving alcoholic beverages.

Derrick Goh, Member of Parliament for Nee Soon Group Representation Constituency (GRC), took to social media to address the matter. Goh, upon receiving feedback about the cafe’s transformation into a pub-like establishment, personally visited the site and noted the unfamiliarity of most customers with the residential area.

HDB confirmed that the property was originally leased as a cafe, but subsequent inspections in response to residents’ concerns revealed that the tenant had violated the terms of the agreement. The cafe primarily operated from 4.30 pm to 10 pm, serving alcoholic drinks and lacking a substantial food menu, contradicting its intended purpose as a daytime eatery.

Despite repeated warnings and uncooperative behavior from the tenant, HDB issued a Notice to Quit in July, mandating the cessation of operations and return of the premises by the specified deadline. In response, Hood Vibes cafe declared its indefinite closure via an Instagram post.

While the cafe’s owner maintains the possession of an alcohol license and the provision of soft background music, earlier social media posts advertising alcohol sales sparked concern among residents, with evidence shared with Goh.
